"The Small Church with the Big Heart"

Opening Song "Song of the Body of Christ" by David Haas

Verse 1: We come as your people, we come as your own, United with each other, love finds a home.

Verse 2: We are called to heal the broken, to be hope for the poor, We are called to feed the hungry at our door.

Verse 3: We come to share our story, we come to break the bread, We come to know our rising from the dead.

Verse 4: We will live and sing your praises, "Alleluia" is our song. May we live in love and peace our whole life long.

Greeting

In the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. AMEN May God, the source of all wisdom, Christ the Lord, his Word Incarnate, and the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, be with you all. ALL: And also with you.

Invitation to Prayer

The all-knowing God, who is Lord, moves us in many ways to deepen that knowledge of Him whom he revealed completely, when, for our sake, the Word was made flesh. Today we ask God's blessing on this addition that will give rise to learning, health and art. We ask that students and teachers alike will find in one another the image of the risen Christ. We ask this in his name, who is Lord, for ever and ever. AMEN

Scripture Readings

A reading from the book of Proverbs (see Proverbs 1:2-7a) "fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge"

May all appreciate wisdom and discipline, may they understand words of intelligence; may they receive training in wise conduct, in what is right, just and honest; That resourcefulness may be imparted to the simple, to the young, knowledge and discretion. The young, by hearing these things, will advance in learning, any intelligent person will gain sound guidance, May they comprehend proverb and parable, and the words of the wise and their riddles. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; it is wisdom and instruction that fools despise. The word of the Lord

Responsorial Psalm 127 (Ps 127:1-2)

"unless the Lord build the house"

Unless the Lord build the house, in vain do the people labor. Unless the Lord build the house, in vain do the people labor.

If the Lord does not build the house, in vain do its builders labor; if the Lord does not watch over the city, in vain does the watchman keep vigil. Unless the Lord build the house, in vain do the people labor.

In vain is your earlier rising, your going later to rest, you who toil for the bread you eat: when he pours gifts on his beloved while they slumber. Unless the Lord build the house, in vain do the people labor.

A reading from the holy gospel according to Matthew (Mt 5:1b-2, 13-16)

"your light must shine before others"

Jesus went up the mountain, and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him. He began to teach them, saying: "You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lamp stand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father." The gospel of the Lord

Blessing of School Addition (Fr Jerry)

Lord God almighty, in your kindness hear our prayers. We dedicate this building to the education and strengthening of youth and to the pursuit of the wisdom of your Word found in books and the arts. May this facility contribute to our leisure and to the renewal of mind, body, and spirit. Grant that all who meet here may find the enrichment of companionship and together offer you praise that is your due. We ask this through Christ our Lord. AMEN

Final Prayer

May God who brings light to our minds and strength to our bodies guide us in all we do, so that each day we may find gladness and friendship. May almighty God bless us all, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. AMEN

Blessing for lunch

God of power and goodness, source of all grace and crown of all the saints, through the intercession of St Rose, bless the meal that we will share together. May it be a source of friendship for our spirits and sustenance for our minds and bodies. We ask this through Christ our Lord. AMEN

A Word of Thanks

As pastor of St Rose of Lima, I wish to offer my thanks and gratitude for the very many people who made the construction of our School Addition a reality. First of all, thanks, to our School Patron, Mr Ralph Nagel. He has been the prime motivator to encourage us to look beyond building only a preschool. I also want to offer thanks to John & Mari Ann Martin who gave the final boost to project funding. And thank you to Tom & Lisa Heule and the Crimmins Family, who funded the interior of the library. Thank you also to the Sullivan Family who offered a challenge grant to the furnishing of the Gymnasium. And of course, we offer thanks to The Daniels Foundation and the Gates Family Foundation. As always, the construction of the Gym and School Addition included the sacrifice and time and treasure of many, many people; some of whom are not even members of the parish. It is impossible to mention all those who contributed along the ten-year process of making this dream a reality, they include alumni, parishioners, patrons, Seeds of Hope, the Catholic Foundation, the Weckbaugh Foundation, the D.W. King Family and personal friends of Mr Ralph Nagel. But you who did these things are no less appreciated and I offer my thanks to you as well. Everyone who contributed to the education and well-being of our present and future students has my undying gratitude. God bless.

**********

St. Rose of Lima is extremely excited to announce that building is complete on our new addition, which will houses a preschool, library and a gym.  The project started three years ago when the St. Rose Development Board began brainstorming how they might open a preschool, which would provide a feeder for St. Rose School.  Since St. Rose utilizes every square inch of space available, this could only be accomplished by building.  A year later, our Adopt-A-School donor, Mr. Ralph Nagel, offered us $510,000, and challenged us to dream big, raise the other half of the money, and build a library and gym as well.  The Development Board put the project in the hands of St. Jude and began soliciting funds from Alumni, writing grants, and looking for donors.  In December, we finally reached our goal.

The Eleanore Mullen Weckbaugh Foundation started us off with a $10,000 donation two years ago. Our architect, John Milan, has given us countless hours of help over the past two years and pledged $10,000 to our project.  Thanks to super grant writer and Alum, Cathy Grant Wanstrath, we are the recipient of a Gates Family Foundation Grant for $200,000, and a Daniels Fund Grant for $200,000.  In addition, John & Mari Ann Martin graciously put us over the top with a check for $200,000.  We have solicited our Alumni and friends several times over the two-year period, and they have raised over $60,000.  Four Alums presently sit on our board.  Ellie Valdez Honeyman has donated stationery and printing of the newsletters.  Our very generous and supportive parish has raised $21,000.  The Archdiocese gave us a $5,000 interest free loan.

During the course of this impossible endeavor, St. Jude has seemed to turn us in prayer to our former pastor, Bishop Evans.  Many of us here at St. Rose have felt his presence in our efforts.  Fr. Jerry Rohr, our new pastor, believed we needed to appeal to our patroness St. “Rosie”.  He wrote a special prayer that the parish and school prayed every day, and has since written a prayer of thanks that we are saying daily.  In short, a minor miracle is about to happen at St Rose!

You, our alums and friends, must surely realize what this will do for St. Rose of Lima School.  We have never had a gym, so our children have never experienced a real home game; they are thrilled about that possibility.  The Ambassadors for Hope (volunteer grandmas from St. Thomas More) have created a library in the back of our Computer Lab.  Now they will have room to grow into an actual Library.  These wonderful ladies are already planning their expansion and looking for donors who might want to donate furnishings to make our library a “cozy” welcome space.  Our preschool will give us the necessary feeder for our primary grades, and provide a real service to our community.  This is wonderful news for our parents, many of whom have preschoolers.

Please rejoice with us for the miracle at St. Rose.  If you to help, please call us at 303-733-5806, or visit the wish list.  Finally, THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for all your prayers and support.  Keep praying, we sure will!
