My name is Mike Thomas, and I’m very happy to be a part of the St. Rose community. I take my job as Athletic Director very seriously, and want to see every student who wants to play a sport for St. Rose have the best possible experience.
We fielded 8 basketball teams during the winter season, and 79 students participated. We had a widget girls team, two widget boys teams, a JV girls team, a JV boys team, a varsity girls team, and two varsity boys teams. 7 of the 8 teams won trophies, and the JV boys took home the first St. Rose championship in any sport since 2004.
We are fielding a baseball team for the first time in 13 years, and have 16 players from the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. We are off to a 3-1 start, and feel good about our ability to continue to learn the game and improve our skills as the season progresses.
We are also fielding 4 volleyball teams, with 35 students participating. We have two widgets teams, one JV team, and one Varsity team. The widgets are split into two teams, and each team is 3-0 to begin the season. The JV girls won two games last week, and the varsity girls won two games last week, so the combined record of our four teams is 10-4 to start the season. Spirits are high, and we encourage everyone to come out and support all of our teams through the spring seasons.
We are also competing again in the junior USTA tennis program. Coaches O'Connor and Kelly are ably shepherding their co-ed team of 6 and matches have already begun. Matches are Saturdays at Huston Park.
