Principally Speaking

Catholic Schools Week was a great success. Thanks to all the parents and grandparents who came to Mass on Wednesday.

Lent has begun. Why not join us for the school Masses on Wednesdays? Talk to your children about things they can do for others, or something they can give up for Lent. We encourage the children to make Lent a time of preparation and sharing in the suffering of Jesus. If you speak with them at home, they will know that we are working together on this important time in our Church. We will be making "change cards" for Lent in keeping with our "Go For It" program. We will have a school "change card" and classroom "change cards". Ask your child(ren) about these. We will also be collecting quarters for "Quarters for Kids" during Lent. This program feeds breakfast to children who cannot afford it. We believe that it is important for children to learn to give to others who have less than they do.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Registration begins the end of February. All families must register each year. If you know you will not be returning, please let us know as soon as possible. We have a waiting list for many grades. We will not be holding spaces this year so please register on time. If you know any NEW families who are interested in enrolling their children in St. Rose next year, please ask them to call us. Our biggest scholarships have March deadlines. Tell your friends now! Remember you receive $100 off your tuition at the end of the year for a new family who stays.

ITBS tests will be given to 2nd - 8th grades from Feb. 19-26 (Tues. - Tues.) These are very important tests given in all Catholic schools. The tests will be given in the mornings. Children tend to perform better in the morning. Please make sure your child is here and on time EVERY day of tests. Those who are absent must make them up. Here are some helpful tips. Make sure your child:

1) gets to bed early /gets enough sleep

2) has breakfast at home or here

3) gets to school ON TIME so they are not rushed or interrupting a test. Please encourage them to do their best. Tell them to listen carefully to directions, and check their answers.

There was a mistake on the last New Letter where Honor Roll was concerned. Noah Gallegos had High Honor's with a 3.86 GPA and Felipe Ruiz made Honor Roll with a 3.16 GPA. Congratulations to both of you!!

Quarters for Kids

Quarters for Kids is a non profit organization that provides breakfast to homeless children. It is estimated that a child can be fed breakfast for 25 cents. Our children can provide breakfast for 1 child for an entire year with the quarters they donate. During lent St. Rose children will be asked to bring quarters to school to support Quarters for Kids. Remember when your children tried to earn money by doing chores at home for the Santa Shop? Possibly your child(ren) can do the same to earn quarters to feed a child. All quarters will be counted and donated to Quarters for Kids. The class who brings in the most quarters will receive a pizza party. Our children are so lucky to receive free breakfast here. In the past our children have given very generously.

Student of the Month

Student's of the Month for January are as follows:

Kindergarten - Madi Lounnivongsa shows a definite love for learning. Her attitude is always positive! She is not afraid to ask questions and takes the initiative to learn all she can! She is a pleasure to have in class!

First grade - Alecia Reyes is a fantastic first grade friend! She is always willing to help others, Miss Hardwick and anyone who needs it. She always has a positive attitude!

Second grade - Samantha Cabral is an excellent student and strives for perfection in her work. She has consistently brought in her homework and follows the school rules. Congratulations, Samantha!

Third grade - Angelica Garcia is a very motivated student and always tries her best. Her hard work and tenacity has helped her achieve success both in her school work and her friendships. She is a delightful little "angel".

Fourth grade - Karla Berrum is a great example to the other students, because she consistently completes her work on time. She stays focused in class and is always looking to help out when she can. Karla is also very creative, as she was the first 4th grader to start her own "class business" - designing and selling bookmarks.

Fifth grade - Valeria Burciaga is a hard worker who dedicates her efforts to presenting the best work possible. She is akind and courteous and is always dependable. Valeria is one of our 5th grade R.O.S.E. A.R.R.Tists!

Sixth grade - Jesse Segura is like a gift to 6th the sixth grade class. When you think of the qualities, responsible, intelligent, caring, and hard-working, you have Jesse. The sixth grade proudly congratulates Jesse and will try to reach the standards he has set for us as a class.

Seventh grade -Adrian Avila is industrious and attentive, as a student he applies himself during class and maximizes learning opportunities. He is diligent at completing homework assignments and assures that instructions are adhered to judiciously. Adrian has grown into a very good role model for his peers. He is a very sensitive and caring young man.

Eighth grade - Larry Dinkelman is a very hard-working student. He always turns in neat and thorough work. Larry is a great example in the classroom, on the basketball court, and beyond. Keep up the great work! Congratulations to ALL of you!!

Valentine's Day

Thursday, February 14th the teachers in grades K-5 will have Valentine's Day Brunch from 9-10 AM. Teachers ask that only muffins and bagels (NO Donuts Please) along with orange juice or milk be sent to the classrooms in the morning. Fruit is optional if you would like to send something for the children. The teachers will also need napkins, plates and cups. Student Council will deliver the surprise Valentine's purchased at the Chili Cook Off to your children during this time. The teachers will let the children pass out their Valentine's and class will begin at 10:00 AM. If candy is brought it will be put aside and taken home at the end of the day.

Seventh and eighth graders will leave for the Valentine's dance at Guardian Angels School at 12:10. Teachers in grades 7 & 8 will need volunteers to chaperone and drive the children over to the dance and return them at 2:30 in time for dismissal. Students in 6th grade will watch a movie and have a small party in the afternoon while 7th & 8th graders go to the dance. This way the students can have their learning time with the 7th & 8th grade teachers in the morning.

Athletic News

We would like to congratulate the basketball teams on their league games. Varsity boys are 3 & 6, the JV boys are 7 & 5. Their end of season tournament is February 7th - 23rd . The schedule for the tournament will be given to your children after the coach's meeting this week.

The Widget boys are 4 & 2 and the Widget girls are 2 & 5. The girls are done with league games and the boys have 2 games left in the league. The Widget teams will enter into their end of the season tournament the end of February. The tournament schedule will be distributed to the players after the coach's meeting in a couple of weeks.

Mrs. Ashbaucher had her twin girls (Kendal and Piper). Kendal weighed 5lbs 7oz and Piper weighed 4 lbs. even. Mrs. Ashbaucher is out of the hospital but the girls have to stay a little longer. They are healthy but just need a little more care.

Thank you to Student Council, all of the students, parents and the staff for the amazing baby shower. It was such a thoughtful gesture and me and my husband will be forever grateful. Thank you for all your support and generosity. Love, Mrs. Aschbaucher

Hablando con de Director

La Semana de Escuelas Católicas fue un gran éxito. Gracias a todos los padres y los abuelos que vinieron a Misa el miércoles.

La Cuaresma ha comenzado. ¿Por qué no se junta con nosotros para las Misas de escuela los miércoles? Hable con sus niños acerca de cosas que pueden hacer para otros, o algo por el estilo puedan sacrificar para la cuaresma. Animamos a los niños a para hacer la Cuaresma un tiempo preparación y comparación en el sufrimiento de Jesús. Si usted habla con ellos en casa, sabrá que trabajamos conjuntamente en este tiempo importante en nuestra Iglesia. Haremos "naipes de cambio" para cuaresma de acuerdo con nuestro "Ir Por Ello" programa. Haremos "tarjetas de cambio" para la escuela entera y "tarjetas de cambio" en cada clase. Pregúntele a su niño (os) acerca de estos. También coleccionaremos pesetas para "Pesetas Para Niños" durante cuaresma. Este programa alimenta desayuno a los niños que no pueden permitirse este lujo. Creemos que es importante que los niños aprendan a dar para los otros que tienen menos que ellos tienen.

RECORDATORIO IMPORTANTE: La inscripción empieza el fin de febrero. Todas las familias deben registrarse cada año. Si usted sabe que no devolverá, por favor déjenos saber tan pronto como sea posible. Tenemos una lista de espera para muchas clases. No sujetaremos espacios este año entonces por favor inscríbase a tiempo. Si usted conoce a NUEVAS familias que estén interesadas en inscribir a sus niños adentro Santa Rosa el año siguiente, por favor dígales que nos llamen. Nuestras becas más grandes tienen fechas topes de marzo. ¡Dígales a sus amigos ahora! Acuérdese de que usted recibe $100 fuera de su instrucción a finales de año para una familia nueva que se queda.

Las pruebas ITBS serán dadas a los grados 2 - 8 el 19-26 (Martes-Martes) Estas pruebas son muy importantes dadas en todas las escuelas católicas. Los exámenes serán dados en las mañanas. Los niños tienden a funcionar mejor en la mañana. Por favor haga seguro que su niño está aquí y a tiempoCADA DÍA de pruebas. Esos que están ausentes tendrán que hacerlos en algún tiempo. Aquí hay algunos consejos que le ayudaran a su niño. Este seguro que su niño:

1) se acueste temprano/duerma bastante

2) desayune en casa o aquí

3) llegue a escuela A TIEMPO así no se sientan apresurados y no interrumpen un examen. Por favor aliéntelos hacer su mejor. Dígales que escuchen cuidadosamente direcciones, y comprueben sus respuestas.

Día de San Valentín

Jueves, 14 de febrero maestros de los grados K-5 tendrán un Desayuno de San Valentín de 9-10 AM. Los Maestros piden que sólo molletes y roscos (Por Favor NO donas) junto conjugo de naranja o la leche sea enviado a las clases en la mañana. La fruta es optativa si a usted le gustaría enviar algo para los niños. Los maestros también necesitarán servilletas, platos y tazas. El Consejo Estudiantil entregará las sorpresas de San Valentín compradas en el Concurso de Chile para sus niños durante ese tiempo..Los maestros dejarán a los niños distribuir sus tarjetas de San Valentín en clase comenzando a las 10:00 AM. Si traen dulces serán guardados y llevados a casa al final del día.

Estudiantes del grado sexto cuidaran una película y tendrán una pequeña fiesta por la tarde mientras los grados 7 y 8 van a un baile. De este modo los estudiantes pueden tener su tiempo de aprendizaje con los maestros de 7 y 8 grados en la mañana.

Los estudiantes de 7 y 8 grados saldrán para el Baile de SanValentín en Escuela de Ángeles Guardianes a las 12:10. Maestros en los grados 7 y 8 necesitarán voluntarios de chaperón y para conducir. Los niños para el baile y al regreso a las 2:30 a tiempo de la despedida.

5 Grado Tiempos Muy Ocupados

El grado 5 estará muy ocupado durante febrero. Los del grado quinto con conductores voluntarios y chaperones participaran en la Liturgia del Archidiócesis de Denver para5 grado el viernes, 22 de febrero, en Risen Christ. La clase saldrá a las 9:00AM. Los San estudiantes de Santa Rosa son los portadores de regalo. La Misa comienza a las 10:00. Después de Misa los niños, su maestro y los voluntarios irán almorzar antes de regresar a clase.

Los de 5 grado irán a la Feria de ventajas el viernes 29 de febrero.@ San Francisco. Saldrán @ 8:45 y regresaran a las 10:40. Habrá dos estudiantes del grado 8 y un padre de Santa Rosa para ayudar a dirigir la feria. Los del quinto grado tendrán una oportunidad para aprender actividades positivas que los hagan exitosos en sus vidas. Otra vez el grado 5 necesitará conductores para llevar y regresarlos de la feria. Conductores voluntarios son bienvenidos para quedarse con los niños y gozar la mañana.

Noticias Atléticas

Nos gustaría felicitar los equipos de baloncesto en sus Juegos de su liga. Los niños Varsity son 3 y 6, los niños JV son 7 y 5. El fin de los torneos de la temporada son el 7 de febrero - 23. El horario para el torneo será dado a sus niños después de la junta del coach esta semana.

Los niños Widget son 4 y 2 y las chicas Widget son 2 y 5. Las chicas han terminado con juegos de la liga y los niños tienen 2 juegos que faltan en la liga. Los equipos Widget entrarán en su fin de torneos de la temporada al fin de febrero. El horario de los torneos será distribuido a los jugadores después de la junta del coach, que será en un par de semanas.

La Señora Ashbaucher tuvo a sus niñas gemelas (Kendal y Piper). Kendal pesó 5lbs 7 oz. y Piper peso 4 lb. La Señora Ashbaucher está fuera del hospital pero las niñas tienen que quedarse por un tiempomás largo. Son saludables pero necesitan mas cuidado.

Gracias al Consejo Estudiantil, todos los estudiantes, padres y personal por la fiesta de regalos para bebé sorpresiva. Fue un gesto detallista, y yo y mi marido estaremos agradecidos para siempre. Gracias por todo su apoyo y generosidad. Con amor, Mrs. Aschbaucher.

El kindergarten - Madi Lounnivongsa muestra un definitivo amor por el aprendizaje. ¡Su actitud todo el tiempo es positiva! ¡Ella no tiene miedo hacer preguntas, y toma la iniciativa para aprender todo lo que ella puede! ¡Ella es un placer para tener en la clase!

¡El primer grado - Alexia Reyes es una fantástica amiga de primer grado! Ella está lista todo el tiempo para ayudar a otros, Miss Hardwick y todos los que l necesiten. ¡Ella siempre tiene una actitud positiva!

El segundo grado - Samantha Cabral es una excelente estudiante y lucha para perfeccionar su trabajo. Ella consistentemente trajo su tarea y sigue las reglas de la escuela.¡Felicitaciones, Samantha!

El tercer grado - Angélica García es una estudiante muy motivada y siempre intenta hacer lo mejor. Su trabajo arduo y la tenacidad la ha ayudado a lograr éxito en su trabajo escolar y sus amistades. Ella es una deleitosa pequeña "angelito".

El cuarto grado - Karla Berrum es un gran ejemplo para los otros estudiantes, porque ella consistentemente completa su trabajo a tiempo. Ella permanece enfocada en la clase y siempre lista para ayudar donde ella puede. Karla también es muy creativa, ella fue la primera del grado 4 para iniciar su " negocio de clase " - diseñando y vendiendo señales de lectura.

El quinto grado - Valeria Burciaga es una trabajadora concienzuda que dedica sus esfuerzos para presentar el mejor trabajo posible. Ella es amable y corteza y todo el tiempo es responsable. ¡Valeria es una de nuestro grado 5 R.O.S.A. A.R.R.Tista!

El sexto grado - Jesse Segura es como un regalo para la clase de sexto Grado. Cuando usted piensa acerca de las calidades, responsabilidad, inteligencia, cuidadoso, y trabajador, usted tiene a Jesse. El sexto grado con orgullo felicita a Jesse y harán un intento para alcanzar los estándares él ha sedimentado para nosotros como clase.

El séptimo grado - Adrián Ávila es industrioso y atento, como un estudiante él se aplica durante la clase y maximiza oportunidades para aprender. Él es diligente completando las asignaciones de tarea y afirma que las instrucciones sean juiciosamente adheridas. Adrián se ha convertido en un buen modelo para sus compañeros. Él es un joven muy sensitivo y cuidadoso.

El octavo grado - Larry Dinkelman es un estudiante muy trabajador. Él siempre devuelve tarea ordenada y completa. Larry es un gran ejemplo en el aula, en la cancha de baloncesto, y más allá. ¡Mantiene tu gran trabajo! ¡Felicitaciones para TODOS USTEDES!!

Pesetas Para Niños

Pesetas para Niños es una organización sin ganancia que provee el desayuno a los niños sin hogar. Esta Estimado que un niño puede ser dado un desayuno por 25 centavos. Nuestros niños pueden proveer desayuno para 1 niño por unaño entero con las pesetas que donen. Durante la cuaresma se les pedirá a los niños de Santa Rosa que traigan pesetas a la escuela para apoyar Pesetas para Niños. ¿Recuerda cuando sus niños trataron de ganar dinero haciendo tareas en casa para la Tienda de Santa? Posiblemente su niño (os) pueda hacer lo mismo para ganar pesetas para alimentar a un niño. Todas las pesetas serán contadas y entregadas a Pesetas Para Niños. La clase que traiga la mayoría de pesetas recibirá una fiesta de pizza. Nuestros niños son tan afortunados de recibir desayuno gratis aquí. En el pasado nuestros niños han cedido muy generosamente.
